Sorrento is a beautiful small coastal town.
Not only is it a beautiful place to visit in it’s own right, it’s also a great place to use as a base to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, Capri, Positano and the Amalfi coast to name just a few places.
The atmosphere in Sorrento is gentle and relaxed. The main street is closed in the evening so people can promenade along the street – people watching or shopping. There’s a good selection of bars and restaurants, some of our most memorable meals have been in beautiful town.
Transport is easy. There’s the local train which can take you from Sorrento to Naples, stopping along the way at Pompeii and Herculaneum. In the harbour there are the ferry ports which can take you to the local islands or to Naples. Then there’s the buses which can take you over to Positano and the Amafi coast – be warned the road hugs the windy coastline.
In the distance across the Bay of Naples is Mount Vesuvius which you can walk up and see into the crater.
